From the state-of-the-art to an empirical proposal

From engineering to psychology, from ecology to social sciences, resilience has been extensively studied to ensure effective responses to major, predictable or unexpected changes, occurring in both physical and social systems. Resilience is central to understand the rising idea of the world as complex and intrinsically far from equilibrium. Starting from these premises, the book analyzes resilience multidisciplinary nature, then its organizational dimension, focusing on the role it plays in complex socio-organizational systems and highlighting theoretical roots, conceptual antecedents, main characteristics and key models. Eventually, by adopting the case study methodology, the book investigates the Italian Civil Protection resilience model, identifying strengths, criticalities and underlying hypotheses of development.
