Vol. X – 2018

This volume of the JMES is subdivided into two parts. The first part collects several papers on an intriguing topic of social importance: the asbestos and its potential risks on environment and health of population. The papers were originally presented to the joint congress SIMP (Società Italiana di Mineralogia e Petrografia) - SGI (Società Geologica Italiana) - AIV (Associazione Italiana di Vulcanologia) - SEGEI (Società Geochimica Italiana) “Geosciences: a tool in a changing world” held in Pisa on 4th-6th September 2017, and in particular at the session entitled “Naturally Occurring Asbestos: state of the art and strategy for investigation and managements”. Successively were submitted to the JMES with the aim of producing a special issue. As Editor of the JMES I’m very glad to host these contributions on our journal because the topic discussed has strong social implications. I would also like to thank the guest editors Rosalba Punturo, Andrea Bloise, Elena Belluso and Carmela Vaccaro that have contributed with their work to reviewing the papers presentend in the volume of the JMES.
In the second part most of the papers were originally presented to the Annual Meeting (2015) of GeoSed (currently a section of the Società Geologica Italiana) and successively submitted to the JMES.
